Some homeless animals wander for years before finding a change from their harsh living conditions, and this is what one dog has experienced. Sometimes the homeless are lucky enough to be rescued, while others sadly end their days without ever knowing love.

A puppy whimpering in pain appeared on a family’s porch begging for help.

In Texas, USA, a family was surprised to be chosen as the “safe harbor” for a furry puppy in her final stages. The little creature exhausted from so much suffering laid down in the driveway of their home to get some peace, fortunately these good Samaritans picked her up and decided to call a shelter for help.

The rescue group This Is Houston arrived at the home to provide support. The dog was very weak and the family had tried to feed and water her but she seemed a bit wary.

Before long she noticed that they just wanted to help her and the dog decided to cooperate.

At some point the furry dog named Lila began to express her happiness that someone was finally going to help her. Perhaps never before in her life had she received attention of this kind.

“When I first arrived she was a little nervous, but once I let her sniff me, she let me pet her and immediately started licking my face.

She wasn’t walking on a leash, so I picked her up, put her in my car and we headed home,” explained rescuer, Kourtney Crenshaw.

Kourtney attended the case after the family shared the situation on a Facebook group and the organization’s help was added. This independent animal advocate was touched to discover that the puppy was somehow waiting for help.

“She must have been ready to be rescued, because even though she was scared, it was very easy to gain her trust and get her to safety,” the woman said.

The first veterinarian who attended to this furry one determined that Lila was actually a 5- or 6-month-old Australian Shepherd. That fact surprised everyone, as no one imagined she was so young and they were even more shocked to learn that she had suffered so much at such a young age.

The dog suffered from demodex mange, which had caused hair loss and skin irritation. Specialists prescribed antibiotics and medicated baths to treat the skin disease and restore her coat.

After weeks of treatment, Lila had begun to improve.

This little dog has a long road ahead of her before she fully recovers from her condition. She now lives in a temporary home where she receives a lot of attention.

“She loves back scratches and belly rubs, but most of all she loves food,” Kourtney said.

Although her skin still doesn’t heal, her heart is doing much better.

Kourtney Crenshaw, who was the first rescuer on the case, continues to monitor the puppy’s recovery. Her aspiration is for the canine to make a full recovery so she can begin a new life in a forever home.

“Once she feels better and is a little healthier, she will be put up for adoption,” explained Kourtney.

Lila’s first few months of life were far from easy, but now she has the chance to live another story. Although her recovery is not complete, hopefully she will soon be ready for a loving family to take her home.

For now, we know that her decision to lie down on the front porch of that house was certainly the best one! Perhaps no one would have received her as well as these people who even sought help for her.

This touching story had a happy ending, thanks to the action of good Samaritans. Therefore, it should motivate others to save more animals in need.
