A dog that wandered for days in the middle of a dangerous highway has struggled for the past few years to regain confidence and courage after losing his family.

After such a sad experience, he received a surprise that forever changed his fate and gave him hope.

The dog could not believe it, but in front of him were the people he loved most: his family.

In January, the Louisiana Humane Society rescued a little white dog with black spots that was wandering lost in the middle of vehicles. The dog was named Cow and was immediately taken to a shelter for a medical check-up.

Luckily everything was fine with him and from his behavior the rescuers sensed that he was not a street dog but a lost child.

Unfortunately, poor Cow was not quite adjusted to the shelter. The dog was very frightened and only some of his caregivers knew how to handle him.

“He was very scared and growled when he met new people. When he was given treats and people talked to him like a baby, he would stop,” said NeNe Lewis of the Louisiana Humane Society. “The way we found him, his reaction is common.”

Although the shelter tried to make him feel at ease, the furry boy didn’t adapt to the place or to the presence of strangers. For that reason, it was difficult to relocate him to a family. In addition, everyone hoped to find his owners and that they would take him back.

After an intense search, all efforts paid off as Cow’s real family turned up.

The dog had not been abandoned, but stolen, and these people had been looking for the dog all this time.

Upon learning of the situation, the rescue contacted the family and began planning the reunion. Everyone knew that this was the best end to the dog’s stay at the shelter. Although Cow felt more at ease with his caregivers, the poor thing was still not quite adjusted.

Deep inside he always wanted to return to the arms of his family and that’s why the reunion filled us with emotion.

The furry grumpy guy turned into a little boy when he saw his dad through the glass.

“Cow was so excited to see his family – he was jumping off the walls and wagging his tail like we’d never seen him before! You could tell by his reaction when he saw his mom that he had been reunited with his real family!” said Lewis.

At the shelter they made a recording of such an emotional reunion. The poor dog stood on his two legs and started walking along the walls. While his reaction was funny, it also filled the atmosphere with great emotion and some tears.

Cow made it back to his family, because after that sea of emotions it was undoubtedly his real parents. The dog recognized them and they also recognized their pet, the one for which they had shed so many tears in the last months.

The dog is the pet of a young couple with two children, and the little ones had been waiting for him every night.

Congratulations to the people at the shelter who made this miracle possible and fulfilled the dog’s wish to be home again. Now this family will have to install the microchip to Cow to avoid another loss and also to be always vigilant.

The little dog is now happily back at home, where he should never have been lost.
