Four kittens were seen wandering the street, all alone and very vulnerable. Their mother was nowhere to be found, they needed help if they were to survive.
Fortunately, concerned passersby decided to act and took the kittens to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington in Virginia. There they were cared for by Penny Richards, an adoptive rescue volunteer who took them home and watched over their welfare.
Four kittens leave the streets and thrive happily in a foster home.

At the time they were rescued the little kittens were just skin and bones, they were covered in fleas so they would need a lot of special attention and care.
From the first moment they were very close, it was as if they were trying to comfort each other for their situation. Penny commented on this:
“The first night was difficult. They didn’t know how to hold on to a bottle, they were too small to eat solids. I made a porridge with wet food, they didn’t know how to eat it properly and they were too young for this to be their food source.”

The first night Penny didn’t sleep, she kept an eye out for the kittens to get some food in their tummies. For several days she did the same routine, after much effort, the kittens finally got used to the bottle, began to put on weight and their appetite became more and more voracious.
In a short time they had adapted to the comfortable indoor life. They received their names and began to enjoy all the comforts around them.
“The kittens were given their names – Beck, Brook, River and Bayou. Bayou has always been my spunky, sassy girl, screaming at the top of her lungs and begging for milk at feeding time. Beck, the youngest, needed help eating for a while, until she was strong enough to eat on her own. Her siblings often gathered around her and huddled to encourage her.”

It only took one of them to discover the way to Penny’s lap for the rest of the kittens to follow in her footsteps.
One by one they learned to climb up their caregiver’s body and now love to nap on her lap. On this Penny said:
“They love to huddle in my lap as soon as I sit with them. Bayou and Beck’s favorite thing is to climb on my shoulder. They all chase each other while playing, and they are the best of friends. Most of the time, though, they can only be found curled up on my lap.”

They are all beautiful little furries that won Penny’s heart. Here is a brief description of each of them:
“Brook, got very comfortable with her humans and quickly mastered the art of lap snuggling. Her coat is dazzling, she has a very soft orange tone that degrades next to the pale gray.”

“Beck has the most precious face to match her precious soul. She meows non-stop until I pick her up, and then she starts her loud purring engine.”

“Bayou is the loudest of the bunch, she loves to have a good lap to sit on.”

“River is the only male among three sisters. His underside is covered with fine white hairs, as if he is aging.”

This beautiful litter had a very difficult start but are now thriving under the roof of a loving home alongside wonderful people who look out for their well-being.

It is only a matter of time before they are put up for adoption and can snuggle the rest of their lives next to the people they have chosen to love them unconditionally.
Adopting more than an act of responsibility is an act of love. Reflect all that is beautiful in your heart and adopt.
