A helpless 4-year-old girl spent 11 days lost in the woods with ferocious wolves and bears. Anyone who hears such a story can’t help but shudder, but this little girl counted on the protection of her own furry angel at just the right moment to save her life.

Dogs are the most loving creatures in the world and that is why it is very easy for them to fall in love with their owners, even more so if we are talking about a child.

These little animals become their companions and protectors, always ready to accompany them in the most dangerous adventures.

Karina Chikitova is a little girl from Siberia who got lost for 12 nights in the thick forest.

An extreme situation she managed to survive, thanks to the help of her ever-faithful dog Naida.

Karina’s parents are separated but live in neighboring villages, so one day the little girl left her mother’s house to visit her father.

When he wasn’t there, she decided to look for him in the forest, unaware of the danger that awaited her.

The girl got lost with her puppy and her parents did not notice it until four days later.

Rodio, Karina’s father, left on a trip just before the girl arrived home with her dog.

The mother explained that the lack of communication in the area meant that they did not notice the little girl’s absence until days later, she always believed she was with her father.

Authorities were notified and immediately launched a rescue operation.

The girl was exposed to low temperatures during all those nights and to imminent danger after encountering bears and wolves.

But Karina was not alone, her dog accompanied and protected her.

“It was Naida who saved me. She was very, very scared. But when we were going to sleep I hugged her, and together we managed to get warm,” the little girl recalled.

During the days she was missing, the girl fed herself with some berries and refreshed herself with water from a nearby river. She also managed to improvise a comfortable place to sleep with the help of some herbs.

Almost two weeks after hundreds of rescuers and volunteers combed the area without any clues, hopes of finding her began to fade.

But the heroic decision of her puppy would turn the story around. When all seemed hopeless, Naida appeared one day in Olom, Olekminskiy ulus, the village where the girl lived.

Unexpectedly, the furry girl had found her way home.

But, the apparition was interpreted as a bad sign by many.

Suddenly, however, the animal began to run through the forest until it left them near where Karina was.

The little girl had been left in a small hole that her four-legged friend dug to keep her safe.

“She was sitting in the weeds, covered up and completely silent. I didn’t really notice her. She saw me and stretched her arms forward. I picked her up, she was so small, so light, like fluff. She wasn’t wearing shoes. Her face, legs and arms were bitten to blood. She was scared to death. She immediately begged for water and food, and burst into tears. To be honest, I could hardly hold back tears too,” rescuers Artyom Borisov recounted.

By the time she was found Karina was obviously emaciated, weighed barely 10 kilograms and had some injuries. However, her fate could have been worse had it not been for her beloved Naida.

The whole country was amazed by this story of love and survival, so all visitors to Yakutsk, the capital of the Siberian republic, can see a statue at the city’s airport dedicated to Karina and her heroic little dog.

Karina and Naida are now a national symbol.
