A humble woman decided to adopt a stray dog from her poor village. Unfortunately, too many animals were struggling to survive. She couldn’t help them all, but she could help one special little animal who deserved it, so she did!

The little dog she named Lilica, was sweet and loyal. She approached her new owner rather quickly. She wasn’t used to living under a roof, so her new mom set her up in a nice dog house in the yard and gave her some room to roam.

The stray’s past was absolutely sad, abandoned she struggled to survive in the middle of a dumpster. But this angel was determined to change her life.

The dog lives in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.

Lucia Helena de Souza, in the midst of her poverty, has always had a great love for animals. That is why, as soon as she saw Lilica, she did not hesitate to help her and offer her home.

At dinner time, Lucia would give her a big bag of food in exchange for lots of hugs and kisses.

Everything seemed to be going completely normal but as time went by, Lucia began to notice a strange behavior in her new friend.

Lilica would leave the yard at an exact time in the evening and return a couple of hours later. She would always return tired from her trip and catch up on sleep during the day.

Thinking this was very unusual, her new mom decided to follow her.

She wanted to be sure she was okay.

Also, Lilica always looked very hungry, because she never ate all the food Lucia gave her. She would always leave more than half of it, grab the bag with her snout and quickly get out of there.

Lilica always left at 9 p.m. sharp.

The little dog walked for miles until she came to a sad place where homeless animals congregated. What came next blew the woman’s mind!

She immediately realized how far her dog had come. And the powerful reason that moved her to do such a thing was something that left her in tears.

Lilica was sharing some of her food with her former stray friends who had made the dumpster their home.

Fortunately, some were able to change their fate. But many others were still being thrown away by their owners, just as Lilica was when she arrived there, like an old piece of furniture, along with the rest of the garbage.

However, her long-standing tradition of bringing food to her stray friends hasn’t stopped. And no amount of human power can convince her otherwise.

Now, she continues to feed half of her food to the other dogs and cats that make a life at the dump.

She always takes special care of the litters, even if they are the offspring of another mother.

Lilica lives permanently with Lucia and she couldn’t be more grateful.

Lilica is wonderful. Many believe that animals are guided only by their instincts but this sweet little dog showed that even in her time of greatest need, there was nothing more important than being able to help others.

Her big heart is an example we should all follow.

As much as we love dogs and think they are amazing, Lilica’s admirable compassion, empathy and solidarity is proof that they are angels on earth.

She would never forget where she came from, and for that very reason, she saw the need to help all those who were suffering what she suffered when she was a stray. Dogs never cease to amaze us!
