For a helpless kitten, being born with a rare condition can be one of the most unfortunate things. Not everyone understands that behind that apparent defect hides the most wonderful being of light that deserves just a second chance to be loved and shine with its own light.

It seems hard to believe but after so many years there are still people who judge others by their appearance.

Dogs, kittens and countless other animals can get unfair and demeaning treatment just for looking a little different from the rest of their companions.

This kitten with the sweetest little face was rejected for being born with an extra chromosome.

This was the case with beautiful Maverick, a kitten who was born with an extra chromosome and had a very peculiar appearance.

Sadly, fate would send him to a family that didn’t deserve him at all. And, when Maverick turned 6 months old, his owners decided they would not take him in.

With his tender expression on his face, he was begging for just a little love and understanding.

Indeed, the furry little guy looked a little different but behaved exactly the same as any other kitten.

So his owners, without a drop of compassion, decided to take him to a shelter in New York and simply forgot about him forever. Even in shelters, the fate of furries like Maverick is very uncertain.

They cornered him in the shelter knowing that euthanasia was a sure fate for him.

There are those who come to consider them “unacceptable” or “incurable” and end up getting rid of them.

Fortunately, the kitten’s story reached the ears of Tara Kay. She is the founder of Odd Cats Sanctuary, a place that specializes in giving special needs kitties a second chance.

After spending a couple of days with Mavercik, Tara fell in love with him and decided to officially welcome him into her family.

The kitten who spent the first few months of his life being rejected, has now become the sanctuary’s mustachioed supervisor.

Little did she know that her abandonment at the shelter would be providential, throwing him into the arms of a caring woman.

After conducting a series of tests, they found that Maverick suffered from a condition equivalent to Down Syndrome in humans.

He has a little hydrocephalus and the shape of his face makes breathing a little difficult.

However, he has a great zest for life and since meeting the love of a home and family, he has become a very special little furry boy. When he spent his first night in a blanket, Maverick was overjoyed.

He soon surprised with a bubbly personality, proving that he deserved just a second chance. Can you judge someone by their looks alone?

Since then, he spends the whole day meowing and loves to socialize with all the kittens that come to the sanctuary. He is very affectionate and his favorite way to take a nap is on his caregiver’s lap.

It is a real relief to know that this beautiful furry kitten managed to get a home where he is accepted and valued just the way he is. It is so unfair to think that other kittens or puppies are left behind and suffer the worst of fates simply because they look a little different.
