Every year, wildfires in California cause untold devastation and loss. Many families lose all their worldly possessions and even the lives of loved ones and pets.
Dry conditions, scorching heat and, unfortunately, ignorant humans are often the cause of the destruction. Flames strike faster than people can react.
Now imagine the animals who have no idea what is happening. They don’t understand evacuation orders. Some are lucky to avoid being caught in the roaring fire.

The aftermath and the healing process are equally detrimental to their survival. They are left terrified and alone, as scorched and scorched earth is all that remains.
But a little kitten named Blaze pulled from the Sepulveda Basin wildfire this month is no longer alone.
They thought this poor kitten wouldn’t make it.

The fire finally burned about 8.09 acres near Sherman Oaks in the Sepulveda Basin on Sept. 06.
Police believe it may have started near a homeless encampment that burns regularly. This time, unfortunately, it also claimed the life of an unknown man, discovered once the fire was extinguished.
There, in the midst of that devastation, a stray kitten just a few weeks old was found. He was transported to a shelter, but required frequent attention and volunteers from The Little Angels Project in Angora Hills were already there to make things easier for the survivor.

With a philosophy of avoiding euthanasia, they knew that if they wanted to give this fighter a real second chance, they had to step in, so when the shelter started looking for someone to care for the kitten, they were already there.
He was originally taken to the East Valley Animal Shelter. The kitten needed 24-hour care and no one at the shelter could provide it. That’s when The Little Angels Project opened their hearts and doors to the sweet fighter.
The horror is over for poor Blaze

The poor baby is only about 5 weeks old and weighs approximately 400 grams. At this point, he should be learning to eat solid food and play. But no, poor Blaze has spent his short life alone and now… terrified and in pain!
The rescuers wasted no time in starting his recovery process. They knew that every moment counted and his health could change in a second.

We can’t imagine how terrified this kitten must have been when he saw the aggressive flames of the Sepulveda Basin Fire rushing towards him. This helpless baby’s chances of survival were slim to none.
His ears were burned and began to fall off due to the accumulation of dead tissue, as well as his hind leg and tail.
Although you may not be able to perceive it, Blaze is a long-haired kitten, but the burns have scorched his fur almost completely!

At first, the kitten’s prognosis was unknown, but the vets were optimistic that he could make it, he has reacted satisfactorily to treatment and his lungs are clear.
His heart is beating better and his ears are still slowly falling off from the dead tissue, we have to wait for them to heal as best they can.
Little by little Blaze proved to be a fighter, it was a terrible start for a little guy like him but many are crossing their fingers, hoping he can make it.
He is in a better mood, besides his care he just wants to be loved and most of his burns are getting better, soon he will have a family that will love him as he deserves!
In a better mood and with a better countenance, Blaze is on the road to recovery.

This kitten had a very rough start but luckily and thanks to the solidarity of those who offered to help him, he changed his fate forever.
