“She lowered her head in shame, she looked like an alien creature…”, so begins the shocking story of an admirable rescuer who found a little dog in such a pitiful state that she thought she would not survive.
There are angels on earth, of those that we would dare to say that they deserve to be cloned, because if we found two of them, the world would be a different place. One of those kind souls is Lauren Buckley, from Alabama, USA.
This woman and her partner, Brook Cole, were touched by the arrival of Brooks, a puppy who was rescued from death row.
Since then, they were sure that there are so many little animals out there with an uncertain future, begging to be helped, that they vowed to do whatever they could to continue saving as many creatures as they could.
And for 6 years now, they have been dedicated to healing animals that are injured, sick or in dire straits, but above all, healing their broken hearts.

So it was that on Christmas Eve, she set out to do something for a little dog that the Brown Dog Coalition was trying to save and needed urgent help.
She was found abandoned in a ditch in the most horrifying conditions.

She was so bad that Lauren actually feared she would succumb to her infections before they could get her to a vet.
“She stunk, couldn’t see, had lost all her fur and was bleeding all over the couch. We held our breath for the next 36 hours…,” Lauren recounted once she came to her rescue.
She sank her little head into the couch in absolute shame.

Luckily, her injuries were not yet so severe that her life could not be saved.
She was diagnosed with demodectic mange and secondary skin infections, prescribed antibiotics and ivermectin to fight the infections and the mites that covered her sore skin.
She had to receive urgent aggressive medical treatment, otherwise she would not be able to survive.

Of course, the adorable Lainey, as they called the little dog, never lacked for all of Lauren’s love and the vet’s selfless care.
As the days went by, as if by a miracle of love, she began to heal and her coat began to grow back.

Before they knew it, a being of light began to emerge and Lainey was unrecognizable.

Her red fur that was once falling apart soon became a beautiful brown and tan coat.

The little dog spent 4 months under the strictest care, full of antibiotics, receiving coconut oil baths, and other medicinal baths, doing everything so that she would not be stressed and that mange would heal completely.

The best thing is that Lainey was no longer just another on the outside, she could no longer be ashamed of her appearance or worry about staining the couch with her sick skin.
All that was a thing of the past.

Fortunately, at the best of times, a good friend of Lauren’s, Kelly, from Georgia, reached out to her because she wanted to give her the home she always deserved.

“It feels like a full circle. She and her husband are amazing, caring people who fell in love with Lainey from the very first moment. We couldn’t have asked for a better family for her,” Lauren said.

“We would do it all over again, because today we get to send a beautiful, brave, sweet, healthy dog who has nothing but wonderful things in store for her,” Lauren added about her rescue work.

In a final post from 2 weeks ago, she shared her bliss at handing Lainey over to her new parents.

“Today is the day! After spending the last four months together, Lainey is heading to her forever home,” she wrote.

The post quickly went viral racking up more than 60,000 shares

If this story has warmed your heart, don’t hesitate to give any little dog in need a chance. Every little animal should feel that it deserves to live, that it deserves to be loved. It is amazing how love works true miracles.
