For a family, a walk in the open air ended in tragedy after their puppy fell into a tunnel that was hidden by a holly bush on the side of the road. And there is nothing more painful for animal lovers than to see those they love so much suffer. The incident occurred in Diamond Jubilee Wood, in Leicestershire-England.
Doggy who spent just over 60 hours underground is released and happily reunited with his family.
Winston, our beautiful protagonist was trapped in the thick mud of the small tunnels made by the badgers, the dog’s curiosity led him to get into a very awkward situation, leaving his family in suspense because they could not give him immediate help.
The furry’s adoptive mother, Heather, informed the different rescue teams about the situation in which her beloved pet found himself.
Little did she know that it would be a difficult rescue as badgers are protected by law.
Unfortunately, Heather had to wait more than two days for her little dog to get the help she so desperately needed. On this Winston’s foster mom commented:
“The last few days have been horrible. We felt so helpless knowing that Winston was trapped.”
Heather had to approach the authorities to get a permit, but all to no avail. It wasn’t until after three days that she finally got favorable responses.
The team from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, heeded the call and went to the scene in the hope of rescuing the little dog alive. Firefighters arrived with full specialist search equipment and machinery, a team from the RSPCA was also present during the rescue.
“When the firefighters started looking for him, we really thought we had already lost him and were mentally preparing ourselves for the worst,” said Heather.
Fortunately, the rescue team had locating devices that were able to locate the dog’s barking, so they knew exactly where to dig.
It took a lot of machinery, strategies and trained personnel to carry out the rescue, the dog had been trapped in a very fragile area so they had to dig slowly to avoid a collapse.
They were hours of total uncertainty for Heather, after five hours of hard work the rescue teams managed to free Winston, who was trapped underground for a little over 60 hours.
“I burst into more tears when we finally saw his little face sticking out of the mud,” said Heather.
After his rescue, the little dog was handed over to RSPCA officers who assessed his condition, fortunately, he had no major injuries so he was soon released and reunited with his family.
All it took was for the little dog to come home and ask for attention, his mother didn’t hesitate to spoil him and make him feel that much more special.
Winston kept rolling onto his back and tenderly asking for his belly to be rubbed. His whole family was thrilled to have him home so they didn’t hesitate to indulge him.
It took a good bath with lots of suds to get all the mud off his little body.
Heather points out that the first few days after the rescue the little dog was very tired and emotionally affected, but with the help of his loved ones he managed to recover completely. Today he is an adorable ball of fur who enjoys having everyone’s attention and being spoiled.
