No animal deserves to spend its life in a cage, this seemed to be the sad fate of an orangutan named Kopral. The poor guy was having such a hard time that he was willing to do anything to get his freedom.
Kopral lives in Indonesia.

One day, when his owners got careless, the orangutan managed to escape from the cage and started running away at full speed. All he wanted was to get away from those humans and when he ran into an electrical tower he could not imagine the enormous danger he was facing.
Kopral had lived in a cage since he was born.

Kopral tried to get through the tower and ended up suffering serious injuries. Some kind-hearted people found him and immediately put him in a cab to transport him to the Borneo Oranguttan Survival Foundation. The veterinarians were heartbroken to see the terrible state of the little orangutan.
Kopral suffered the accident when he was only 4 years old.

All the animal had done was escape and in return he had had to pay a very painful price. They did everything in their power but the only option to save him was to amputate his arms.
It would not be easy, but Kopral was already being helped by loving rescuers.
Kopral is now 15 years old.

As soon as he recovered, he began a program designed to rehabilitate orangutans who are not born in the wild or who do not have the help of their parents.
“They start in ‘Baby School’ and then progress to ‘Forest School.’ Depending on the age and abilities of each one it can take years in their rehabilitation process,” explained a Foundation spokesperson.

At the ‘Forest School’, Kopral learned how to build nests, climb trees and select appropriate food for himself. This way he could have everything he needed to live freely in a sanctuary.
“Our doctors and specialists are confident that Kopral will be able to live completely independently on the island. He will still receive constant monitoring,” said the Foundation’s spokesperson.

Due to his tragic accident, Kopral was very different from the rest of the orangutans but this never stopped him, he was very clever and always managed to climb and search for food using his paws. In a matter of weeks he had already become the star pupil of the place.
At school he is also taught to protect himself and recognize natural predators.
Now that he has celebrated his ‘graduation’ in style, this sweet orangutan will be moved to a sanctuary where he can live in peace.
Despite having had such a tragic first few years of life, this orangutan has gotten the life he so richly deserves. Hopefully no animal will ever have to go through the ordeal of captivity. Share!
