When a couple rescued Samara, they knew there was very little that could be done for her – she was truly on the verge of death.
A Geiger and her husband are admirable rescuers from Chisinau, Moldova, in Eastern Europe, and luckily, they had a lot of experience with abused and abandoned dogs.
And this poor dog’s life on the streets was the closest thing to an ordeal, full of rejection, suffering, hunger and everything that comes with danger in the open, in inhospitable temperatures, without shelter or love.
“When my husband saw the photo of that little “zombie” dog, he was not only shocked, it rocked his world,” said Una.
The couple was appalled by the photo of the zombie dog, so they decided to intervene immediately

Riddled with mange, and totally traumatized, one more second on the streets and her death would be signed.
But when absolutely no one would have done anything to save her, as her appearance alone caused revulsion, Una and her husband decided to gamble everything to give her one last chance.
In fact, they had to face criticism from many who couldn’t understand how they could welcome such a dog home.
“She suffered from severe demodex mange and looked more like a zombie dog than a normal puppy. Also, due to the abuse on the streets of Chisinau, she was panicky and aggressive,” Una recounted.

By this time, Una had 3 dogs in her home, all of whom had been rescued and had been traumatized in their past by the terrible treatment they received.
That was instrumental in Samara initially feeling the support of the pack, but she would definitely have a long way to go.
“Dealing with us humans was a completely different matter. For us to walk, move, and even barely raise our voices to call the dogs, she would panic and cower in a corner.”
They were facing a very critical situation, both because of her serious state of health and because of her deep traumas, which were difficult to heal.
So they decided first to cure her with medicinal baths, antibiotics, and patiently treating her wounds day by day, which they stitched in the worst way.

It was thus that with time, fortunately that torn skin was no longer there, the mange was a thing of the past. But there was still the most heartbreaking thing left, his mental problems.
The wise couple decided to give him all the time in the world to see with his own eyes that after calling a dog, waving a hand, laughing, or raising his voice to say anything, did not necessarily come an act of abuse towards his poor body.

“Despite all this, we knew he would never become a typical dog. Her issues with humans are too great. She is still very shy, she doesn’t like to be touched and walking on a leash is impossible. But she walks alongside our dogs and even responds better to commands than our trained dogs,” said Una a few weeks after her rescue.
Samara was left with visible scars on her face, which serve as a reminder of her past, but her soul is healing and she takes minimal steps that bring glory to her devoted owners.

Two years after her rescue, the progress has been tremendous, and she now has a big smile on her face. And at the least expected moment, a miracle happened that left Una in tears.
“Samara let me pet her for the first time. I was able to touch her little head and chin, and she seemed happy that I kept doing it. And who knows if someday she’ll snuggle with my husband or me on the couch,” the woman concluded.

Her amazing transformation demonstrates the power of love and compassion to transform an animal with a broken heart and body. It’s time the world understood what goes on in the heart of an abused dog! Enough is enough!
