The fact that a devastated child is forced to abandon his best friend in life, his beloved puppy, to save him from the evil of his own father, is heartbreaking.

This was the sad case faced by the volunteers of the Xollin shelter, located in San Juan Teotihuacán, in the State of Mexico.

The devastated 12-year-old boy had to abandon his pit bull so that his father would stop mistreating him.

The poor little boy preferred to leave his puppy René in a shelter to give him the chance to stop being mistreated.

After asking his mother for help, they found the Xollin shelter, where they took the sweet puppy.

They put him in a cardboard box with his favorite toy and a heartbreaking letter written by the little one that left everyone at the shelter heartbroken.

The touching letter read as follows:

“My name is Andrés and I am 12 years old. My mom and I decided to leave him in your hands behind my dad’s back because I was thinking of selling him, but he mistreated him and kicked him a lot. Once, he kicked him so hard that he hurt his little tail. I hope you can help him, take care of him and love him as much as I do. I left him his stuffed animal so he will never forget me.”

With indescribable pain, mother and son had to say goodbye to Rene, who is also the most adorable puppy in the world. Although it was too painful, they knew it was undoubtedly saving his life.

About that bitter experience, the shelter told in their networks:

“We were left this little dog outside the shelter, inside a box, with a note and a stuffed animal. With all that burden of desperation they left him with us to be saved. We have to take him to the doctor to check his tail, as it seems to be fractured, deworm him and start with his health check-up”.

Once at the shelter, the volunteers decided to put their heart, soul and life into this case that broke the hearts of millions on the internet. René’s tail needed a lot of care, so he was treated, vaccinated and sterilized.

René became part of one of the more than 100 puppies that the shelter takes in.

The heartwarming story of René and his little owner went viral and was shared thousands of times. And immediately, close to 300 adoption requests arrived at the shelter.

Days later, they managed to contact Andrés and his mother to tell them that René was recovering wonderfully. So they arranged a reunion and it was the most emotional thing they had experienced at the shelter in a long time.

With mixed feelings, they had to say goodbye again, now with the peace of mind that René could not be in better hands. The mother told Andres that she was very proud of him, because she knew how much it was costing him, but they made the right decision.

Some time later, the shelter shared beautiful pictures of René smiling as he went for a walk with a temporary family.

Rene finally knew love and true happiness, certain that he will never see a hand or foot on his little body again.

Even though adoption applications poured in, the shelter has remained very cautious, as most people got caught up in the fever of the story going viral. But, in reality, they doubt that they will manage to be committed and are afraid of breaking Rene’s heart again.

It’s only a matter of time before the perfect family for Rene appears. It’s so sad that these two friends had to be separated because of an abusive adult. We send blessings to the mother and the little boy, they were very brave!
