Life for a homeless mother dog can be absolutely tough. And when you add puppies to the equation, it becomes a real nightmare.
Not only do they have to worry about desperately searching for a safe haven to protect what they love most, but they often have to endure the indifference of people, and even the inclemency of real human scumbags who dare to harm them.
Stephanie Brooks was walking in New Jersey, USA, when the scene of a little dog with a puppy dangling from her muzzle completely devastated her.
Luckily, she knew to call for help immediately and contacted the rescuers at Hope For Paws.
The mother dog protected her babies with all her might because one had already been stolen from her
It appeared to be a young stray that had just given birth. Stephanie had captured the puppy and was keeping her safe in a small area of her home, along with her other puppies.
When rescuers arrived they found a deeply heartbreaking scene, the mother was tightly shielding her babies with her body, so getting her out would be a difficult task.
She was too frightened and did nothing but growl, but deep down she wanted to be helped.
With the help of a trap, they finally managed to lift her out of there. But she did it carefully, making sure not to step on her babies.
The way the mother approached her rescuers made it clear to them that she was a tremendously sweet little dog, and they, in turn, spoke to her, telling her that they meant her no harm, and that they were there to help her.
She got the message, and incredibly even allowed them to maneuver her 7 babies, but sadly one passed away.
They named her Jade because she was like a precious diamond.
The rescuers saw that it would be the right time to move the mother and the little ones to their shelter, to care for them so that no more lives would be lost.
They had to do this by showing the mother her puppies all the time, otherwise she became very anxious and desperate. Poor thing!
At the veterinary clinic, fortunately they confirmed that all the puppies were healthy and did not require any further care.
But even though everything seemed to be going well, Jade still showed signs of indescribable anguish. And the rescuers couldn’t understand what could be happening to her.
The next day, a call from Stephanie changed everything. She told rescuers that a neighbor had apparently taken one of the babies, thinking she could take care of him herself.
However, she was then so heavy with the conscience of having separated the baby from its mother that she confessed what she had done.
The poor mother cried silently for her little one and did not know how to tell her heroes that she was missing a baby. So they immediately arranged for Jade to be reunited with her lost baby.
Everything seemed to come together in the mother’s heart, it was the missing piece and how happy she was now with her litter complete.

After eight weeks of endless love and loving care from her rescuers, all the puppies are now ready to be adopted.
This story could have ended terribly in many ways, but because of Stephanie’s timely call, and the neighbor coming to her senses, Jade was back to being as happy as she could be with the baby she cried so hard for. Dog moms are wonderful, if only they could talk!
