A few days ago Renato Borella decided to go fishing in the Teles Pires River in Brazil. The man never imagined that he would make the most memorable catch of his life that day. Borella set out on his journey with total serenity, certain that it would be a great day. He took his catch, called his guide, they started the boat and sailed into the river.

A catch that exceeded all expectations.

A few minutes after setting off the man saw something in the distance struggling against the current, curious and excited to have a great catch they approached, having better vision they were surprised to see that the animal struggling against the current was a howler monkey far from the shore. They decided to get even closer and noticed that the little animal was very distressed and unable to get out of the water. It had apparently been swept away by the current while trying to cross the river.

“It was very tired, and the river in that place is very wide and flows quickly. My guide and I were moved by the scene and decided to help.”

The men threw a life preserver in the primate’s direction with the intention of getting him to hold on and providing the necessary help. The monkey seemed to have understood the men’s message and ended up jumping over the edge of the boat. Borella says that at first they were very worried, fearing that the frightened animal might attack them. But after a few seconds they noticed a certain air of gratitude from the primate. In this regard Borella comments:

“He seemed to be thanking us for helping him.”

Borrella and the guide immediately piloted the small boat to shore to drop off their new crew member at the place where the strange adventure began. The howler monkey after all he had been through made it back to where he belonged. Undoubtedly, these little creatures never cease to amaze us, showing every bit of their intelligence and how similar we are.

The howler monkey lives in northern South America.

The little primate had every reason to be grateful, his life had been saved by two men so similar and so distant from him. Borella is even happier to have been able to help the little howler monkey and to be in the right place at the right time to save a life.

Undoubtedly, we will never know when we have the opportunity to save the life of an animal in trouble, the important thing is that we are willing to help even if we think all is lost.
