In response to recent wildfires in Bolivia, animals inhabiting the impacted area have moved. A mother sloth and her infant were among those compelled to escape to a nearby town for relative safety.

However, along the road, the sloth mother became estranged from the one who is most important to her.

However, they would not be separated forever.

This month, veterinarian Marco Greminger received a call regarding a newborn sloth that had been discovered alone near the town of Trinidad. It is believed that the newborn sloth fell from his mother’s arms after being frightened by neighborhood dogs.

It is unknown how long the mother and child were separated, but for them, every second was too long.

Fortunately, some 300 feet distant from the location where the infant was discovered, Greminger was able to identify her likely mother hiding in a tree. Placing the infant nearby eliminated any question.

Upon reconnecting with her infant, the mother sloth’s relief and happiness were evident.

Greminger later remarked, “A mother’s heart is the most wonderful place for a child.” There is just one heart similar to this in the entirety of the cosmos.

Now, the sloths were safe. And Greminger is ensuring that they remain so.

Greminger decided to bring the mother and child to his clinic for evaluation and to replenish their strength after the adorable reunion. Both were confirmed to be healthy.

Since then, the sloths have been safely and, most significantly, collectively released back into the wild at an ecological reserve.
