A kitten has become the best therapy for a sick grandparent, and without a doubt, there is no better therapy than the presence of a furry friend to help us face the reality that often overwhelms us.
With their infinite love, furry friends have the great ability to transform our gray days into something calmer.
At least that’s how it is for Kelly Nugent and her father, John Nugent. Kelly decided to move from her home in Florida to New York in order to help her ailing father, who is undergoing extensive treatment for bone marrow cancer.
Adorable kitten became the best guardian angel for the grandfather.

Due to his illness, John’s movements are becoming more and more limited, so he needs 24-hour care.
In view of this, his daughter left everything behind and marched to meet him, but she did not do it alone, she took with her her beloved kitten Sweet Potato .
Between caresses and sweet purrs she made her understand that everything will be fine.

This beautiful kitten is two years old and loves to comfort people, although he is not a certified therapy animal, he has become the best comfort for John in his hectic days. Kelly commented on the matter:
“He is the sweetest cat in the world, he just loves everyone and wants to be near people. He has a canine personality.

From the first moment Sweet Potato saw Kelly’s father he ran to meet her and tenderly lay on her lap. Something that surprised John, because although he is fascinated by animals and confesses that he has a preference for dogs, he never imagined that a kitten could be so loyal and affectionate.
Little by little Sweet Potato has changed his way of thinking. And why not, if he has become the sweetest and most tender nurse anyone could have.
No matter where Grandpa is in the house, Sweet Potato will be with him.

Kelly says that from day one the kitten has adapted perfectly to the changes and has gone crazy for his father.
Apparently this sweet ball of fur recognizes when something isn’t right and his way of showing that he can be counted on is by giving a lot more love. Kelly noted:
“He just walked up to my dad and said, “This is my job! Now I’m going to help you fix it. It seems like he knew.”

Their bond grows stronger as time goes on, and best of all, John’s pain has lessened considerably. Kelly is sure the presence of her beloved furball has a lot to do with it.
It’s been two months since Sweet Potato came into her grandfather’s life becoming increasingly inseparable.
“My dad has a recliner that he sits in and puts his arm in and, every time without fail, Sweet Potato jumps up and sits on his arm and snuggles with him,” Kelly said.

No matter if John is at the computer, on the couch, or just taking a nap, Sweet Potato will come over to show him love and cuddle with him to let him know that everything will be okay.
Kelly’s father continues to face the disease in the best way and enjoys all the attention that his daughter and his little furry nurse offer him. We hope she heals soon and can continue to enjoy all the love Sweet Potato has to give her.
There is no greater manifestation of love more sincere than the caress of our pet. We hope everyone can give themselves the opportunity to love and be loved by a furry friend.
