For a pit bull puppy who suffered the unspeakable, being vilely used in the well-known dog fights, nothing could have been worse when he saw that he was being separated from his beloved canine brother forever.

Both dogs, who should have always been in a home with loving owners, carried a past full of mistreatment on their backs at their young age.

Luckily, a local rescue organization in the United States learned of their plight. And with the help of the authorities, they managed to get them out of that drama. They spread their story to touch someone’s heart and get a home for both of them.

It was in 2016 when a woman named Tawny, and her husband, finally met the little siblings Keiko and Niko at an adoption event, and fell head over heels in love with the 2 puppies.

Of course their initial plan was to adopt them both, but unfortunately their town had a strict and inviolable law: only three dogs were allowed per household.

By that time, Tawny already had two other dogs adopted. So the rescue decided it was preferable to put one dog up for adoption, rather than none at all, and Keiko was assigned to her.

The poor pitbull watched with deep sadness as his brother was adopted and he was not.

Tawny was truly heartbroken when, upon arriving to pick up Keiko, the workers told her about poor Niko’s reaction. he was devastated!

It seems he had understood that for some reason they had fallen in love with his brother, but they didn’t like him very much?

Who could explain to him that it was all because of an absurd law but he was a puppy as worthy as his brother of a loving home?

Tawny had to resign herself to take Keiko alone and start her new life, together with her three dogs at home.

Some time later, Niko was adopted by another family. But no one imagined that this was not the right destiny at all, and that he would continue to be the victim of mistreatment.

By coincidence of fate, around the same time, Tawny had to say goodbye forever to her older dog. After a lifetime together, and being the happiest dog, he crossed the rainbow.

Immediately, she saw on the networks a photo of Niko with an urgent message, which read:

“The family that adopted Niko did not treat him well. The rescue urged to bring him back and here he is with us again. His heart is broken into a thousand pieces. Now he needs a new home.”

Tawny and her husband didn’t hesitate for a second to approach the shelter. Knowing that they were now a family with only two dogs, they knew that Niko belonged to them. The shelter couldn’t have been happier about that and assigned him to them right away.

However, when Tawny took him home, she couldn’t get a sense of how traumatized he was.

“If we tried to walk over him, he would flinch. If we tried to put a leash on him, he would pee right there,” Tawny recounted.

Poor Niko desperately needed to feel safe and loved.

Luckily, Keiko would be there to act as the best sibling. The first time they saw each other in their new home was really exciting.

Of course they both remembered each other and immediately developed an unfathomable bond, the kind that only happens between siblings.

Nothing was easy for Niko. His first night was quite frightening. Although his parents did everything to make him comfortable and tried to comfort him, it wasn’t working.

But, Keiko knew better. She crawled inside her brother’s box, hugged him and they cuddled together. It was the perfect trick and from then on, Niko was able to fall asleep. Isn’t this absolutely beautiful?
