A faithful little dog stood by the door in grief waiting for her owner to return from the hospital. Her reaction is truly touching.

A dog’s unconditional love is something we cannot appreciate and thank enough. But certainly, every furry little dog has its own ways of showing its love.

Katie Synder has an adorable German Shepherd puppy named Leia as a pet, who is a truly special, if not entirely loving, creature.

“Leia is not your typical cuddly dog. She is very independent and laid back.”

It so happened that last April, because of a trip he had to leave her at his parents’ house, but it was only temporary. She knew that although she would miss her, Leia would have a good time with the other puppies her parents have.

Katie had no idea what would happen after Leia spent just a few days in that home.

Although Leia was apparently a bit standoffish, it turns out that she became jealous of the other puppies. Soon, Katie’s parents noticed that the little dog was beginning to love them in her own way.

“She loves you in her own way, whether it’s lying close to you during a movie night or sitting outside the bathroom door waiting for you to finish.”

However, no one suspected the strong bond that was beginning to emerge between Katie’s dad and Leia, until that love was dramatically tested.

Katie’s parents were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary when Mr. Synder unexpectedly had some complications with the cancer he was suffering from.

So he was forced to spend the night alone in the hospital, but his wife was unable to accompany him due to restrictions put in place by the coronavirus pandemic.

When the mother returned home quite distressed for her husband, she quickly realized that she was not the only one devastated.

The next morning found her standing by the front door with her head bowed, patiently waiting for Dad to come home.

The little dog wouldn’t budge from the door.

Katie’s mom could not help but be moved by such a heartbreaking scene. Leia would wait forever if she had to, even though she was not a very affectionate dog. It was clear that her love was much deeper than anyone had imagined.

The woman didn’t hesitate to take out her camera to send a photo to her daughter.

“Leia missing Tom, yesterday morning,” the mother wrote to Katie.

“I immediately burst into tears. It absolutely killed me. I could see how much she really loved my dad and that she missed him,” Katie said.

Fortunately, Leia’s heartbreak wasn’t to last for long. Tom got better and returned home when he was recovered. The reunion between him and his pet is one of the moments he will treasure forever in his memory and in his heart.

You can imagine what that sweet encounter was like with the little dog waiting for him.

Right away Katie decided that she definitely couldn’t separate them anymore and exclaimed about it, “When it comes to loyalty, she is the true definition of a dog. He’s her human now.”

“My mom has gotten used to another woman kissing him on the cheek,” Katie concludes.

A dog’s heart is full of nobility, they have an innocent soul and their loyalty is unmatched. They say they are man’s best friend, but they can really be like a member of our family and offer us their loyalty and love.

And, although dogs can’t talk to us, they are able to express their feelings and show affection to those they love.

We are very fortunate to be able to count on the company of these animals. This dog’s gesture confirms that we humans have much to learn from them.
