We have no idea of the hard life a stray dog can go through. Many of them had a family, one day they were the most loyal but were paid with the worst ingratitude by being thrown out on the street, at the mercy of danger, disease, hunger and desolation.
While some irresponsible drivers flee the scene after running someone over, one woman in Yucatan, Mexico, did just the opposite. And, after trying to help the victim of a third party’s negligence, she has now unleashed a wave of solidarity in memory of Rex.
This homeless mestizo was run over and found in a generous woman the care that his aggressor was not able to give him.
This is what the stray dog looked like when he was rescued.

Silvia V. took care of the little dog after witnessing the accident. The woman took him to a veterinarian, who informed her that Rex – as she decided to call him – would need an operation to walk again.
Although Silvia has a big heart, her budget is not so large and she could not cover the expenses involved in the surgery. But the rescuer would not give up and started a campaign in networks to raise funds and with everyone’s help, be able to operate Rex.
Something had to be done to help him.

The lady sold cream cheese empanadas and donuts for $15.00 Mexican pesos (0.75 dollars), to help her furry friend.
In fact, Rex himself helped her good cause and with a little sign around his neck he accompanied Silvia to charm customers into buying her products.
Rex warmed the hearts of customers with this note.

“I sell desserts to pay for my surgery”, is what the sign read next to a sweet drawing of a puppy.
For the past few weeks, this little family had been selling their little desserts at the Polígono 108 library park, located on 26 C Street by 27A and 27B, and they used social networks to encourage their neighbors and friends to help them.
Rex and his mommy offered decorated donuts on special occasions.

Sadly, after a few weeks of fundraising for the operation, the furry boy did not resist.
Rex was suffering from severe malnutrition and dehydration, which complicated his situation and, despite having received support after seeing an orthopedist, the dog was admitted on an emergency basis and his heart could not resist any longer.
The furry dog passed away after many people sympathized with his cause.

The operation for Rex’s legs was valued at 500 pesos ($24), and the woman was almost there. But after the stray finally crossed the rainbow bridge, Silvia decided to use the money for the cremation of the furry dog and will donate the surplus to other animals in need.
Through a WhatApp, the unfortunate news that left millions in tears was announced.

Although Rex was not saved, the good heart of this woman made him feel loved in those last weeks of his life. Accustomed to no one caring about him, and everyone passing him by, Silvia cared for him as if he had been her pet for a long time. And that is surely something Rex will cherish from heaven.
It is a story that touches our hearts, especially because we are all fond of his image and his little eyes begging for charity to be operated on. All this happened because of an irresponsible driver, who if he had acted in time, this little dog would have a different destiny.
They don’t deserve to die run over on the side of the road, that’s why Silvia’s efforts to help Rex are to be applauded. Send your blessings to this woman and the furry one in Heaven.
