Inspired by fictional characters, many children dream of being heroes, however, reality hits us head on and puts us in situations that make us get the best of us, often turning us into those heroes without capes who help the most vulnerable.
This is the case of two children who helped a raccoon in distress after getting stuck in a burrow.
The incident occurred in a Texas forest.

Dalton and Rylen, 14 and 12 years old respectively, along with their father Dray McMillon, had gone out to a nearby forest in their home with the sole intention of having a little distraction and having a pleasant memory in contact with nature.
They never imagined that day they would save the life of a small animal, who was walled up to its neck in a burrow, was very frightened and could barely breathe.
The raccoon had only a third of its body out of the ground.

The children noticed something strange on the ground, the raccoon only had his head and arms out of the ground, evidently, he was not resting or digging a hole, apparently the burrow where he was resting collapsed and he was trapped.
Faced with this scene, Dalton and Rylen did not hesitate to act, they quickly set to work to dig and free the frightened raccoon.
The boys never gave up, they were determined to save the helpless animal.

Their father also joined the emotional rescue mission, something that was quite complex because it was not just a matter of digging a hole and taking out sand, every maneuver was done with total delicacy so as not to hurt or scare the little animal.
The father and the children spent a long time digging around the raccoon, enlarging the hole to give it more mobility and a little more air.
After a big scare, the raccoon was finally freed. The mission was not easy, the family asked for help from the local pet rescue center, who arrived with shovels and a whole rescue team that made it possible to free the raccoon.
Volunteers from Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center arrived on the scene and made the seemingly impossible a reality. Dray McMillon commented on the matter:
“When I arrived, the raccoon was panting. It was very sad to see this animal struggle. My children were very convinced that we had to save the animal. I could see the sense of accomplishment in my children. They were very excited that the animal was released safe and sound.”

When the raccoon was released it ran off into the forest, however, the children claim that one moment the little animal turned its head and looked them in the eye in a grateful way.
Fortunately, this story had the best ending thanks to little people who decided to act and did not give up. Undoubtedly, little heroes who show us that there are more of us good people.
We can all be heroes by performing small acts of love. Don’t leave without sharing this story and make a difference.
