Nature is full of beauty and horrors in equal measure. Some animals may look perfectly sweet and harmless, but when they open their mouths, that illusion is over in an instant!

Just the mere sight of their oral cavities can make you flee the scene. For example, the jawless sea lamprey has a scary suction-cup mouth that’s ringed with rows of knife-like teeth. Plus, its tongue is abrasive enough to cut through any kind of skin! And the inside of a sea-turtle’s mouth may be the most terrifying image ever.

Trust us, you never want to come across this in real life. The kind of funny-looking Mandrill has 2.5 inch long canine enamels that make it look extremely menacing. And then there’s hippos, who can open their jaws up to 180 degrees or 4-feet wide. Their massive, powerful canines and incisors can literally cut a human body in half!

The common black devil, or the anglerfish, has a mouth so big that it can swallow prey up to twice its size. This, plus their long, sharp fangs give them an almost alienesque appearance.

Another sea-creature you should be wary of is the viper-fish – which is capable of using its horrifying needle-like teeth to form a sort of prison to prevent its prey from escaping. So out in the wild, an animal’s strongest weapon may be its mouth, which is why there are some very, very creepy ones!
